The following is a work in progress which details the descendants of John Clarke of Finningham,
co. Suffolk, England, great-grandfather of Joseph Clarke, an early settler of the colony of
Rhode Island in New England. Joseph was the brother of Dr. John Clarke, the drafter of Rhode
Island's Royal Charter of 1663.
Again, I emphasize that this is a work in progress. Any use of the contents of these pages
without my express consent is prohibited. I am periodically updating this genealogy as my
research proceeds. Most recently I have examined early land and court records of Rhode Island
